Playground Update Video Below
To be continued Spring 2021
The board has decided to revamp the outside play area in the community center in an effort to make it more usable and friendly for children and families.
Our vision is a natural playground that will blend with our environment, keep costs low and serve as a space for creation and bonding, also a few Picnic spots with tables for families to enjoy.
The Challenge
- Commercial Grade Playgrounds are not cheap (thousands per play element). We had plans for fundraising through events in the community center which for obvious reasons, we are not able to do right now.
- Due to the current physical distancing guidelines, community working days may be challenging for many people.
The Solution
- The board was able to secure a $5000 grant from Western Lane Community Foundation (which we already received).
- We opened a Pay Pal account for the DCS where you can now donate to this project and the DCS via your Credit Card Online (Tax Deductible).
- We divided this project to little "Mini-Tasks" that individuals or small groups can take on.
The Plan
In order for us to succeed with tackling our playground challenge, we need the following goals achieved:
1. Preparing the ground- Clearing stumps and old play structures.
2. Design the new playground elements.
3. Get/Source materials for the different designs.
4. Build playground play-structures.
In order to avoid large gatherings and advance this project we wanted to decentralize the build and try to get as many people involved as possible each with their own little team.
